Our people make Hutchison a great place to work and we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on another member of our talented team.

In our latest Meet the Team feature, we meet Planner and Buyer Scott Miller.

We asked Scott to tell us a little more about his role and what he enjoys most about working at Hutchison.

Tell us a little about yourself…

I was born near the ‘bonny banks’ of Loch Lomond and grew up near Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland’s ancient capital.

I represented Scotland in gymnastics when I was young. After that, I went to university and would DJ at nightclubs in the evenings. From there, I went on to work at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews. While there, I worked at two Open Championships and even managed to get my hands on the Claret Jug, when Louise Oosthuizen won it in 2010 and was celebrating at the hotel.

Outside of work, I am a bit of a Sci-Fi geek and would happily chat about Star Wars/Star Trek. I enjoy reading and playing tabletop games and watching football and American football.

Tell us about the main aspects of your role…

As Planner and Buyer, my main responsibilities include liaising with vendors and raising purchase orders, managing data for our new management reporting systems, overseeing the David Lloyd membership card supplies and helping around the warehouse at our new global headquarters in Luna Place, Dundee.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best part of my role is helping teams find solutions and providing customers with a quick turnaround on orders to fulfil their requirements. This could be a small part for a helpdesk job or multiple items for a large project. I also enjoying seeing the impact our new management reporting systems are having, and will continue to have, on the business as we integrate them further into everyday use.

What makes you stay at Hutchison?

I enjoy working with my team on a daily basis. I also enjoy the challenge of helping to introduce business improvements that speed up processes, help us to be more efficient and have a positive impact across the business.

If coronavirus is a teacher, what has it taught you?

To appreciate the moment and enjoy the simple things. Lockdown has made this so much harder to do.
